Litigation and Corporate & Finance

Valoria is a partner in Kohrman Jackson & Krantz's Corporate and Finance Group as well as the Litigation Group and is the Partner in charge of the firm’s Columbus Office. Valoria principally practices in complex business litigation and general corporate matters. She also provides counsel to public and private companies on their day-to-day business. Additionally, having clerked for the 9th District Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court, Valoria has extensive experience in appellate practice. Since 2003, Valoria has served as Special Counsel to The Ohio Attorney General.

 

Prior to joining KJK Valoria was a partner in an Akron law firm where she concentrated in complex civil litigation; representing state universities, public utilities, and other major businesses at all levels of federal and state courts.  Valoria’s cases have involved many diverse claims, including fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties, complex commercial disputes, trade secret violations, shareholder rights disputes, insurance company’s rehabilitation and class actions.  Her successes as a primary litigator include a $9,500,000 verdict for an aircraft brake manufacturer on an anticipatory breach of contract claim and an $800,000 verdict for an architect on a breach of fiduciary duty claim.

 

After law school, Valoria clerked for Judge Deborah Cook at the Ninth District Court of Appeals. She followed Justice Cook to the Ohio Supreme Court, where Valoria was Justice Cook’s senior judicial attorney before moving to private practice.

 

Some of Valoria's recent experience include:

  • Successfully defending an insurance company against a class action lawsuit concerning fraud in unfair premiums increases
  • Successfully representing an ousted company president and shareholder in a fraud action against the acquiring shareholder
  • A $9.5 million verdict for an aircraft brake manufacturer on an anticipatory breach of contract claim
  • Successfully defending a medical school in a discrimination case
  • Successfully representing to verdict a real estate company in pursuit of its commission
  • Obtaining approval of an insurance company's rehabilitation plan
  • An $800,000 verdict for an architect on a breach of fiduciary duty claim
