Litigation and Labor & Employment Law

 

Rob is a partner in Kohrman Jackson & Krantz’s Labor and Employment Law Group.  Rob represents employers of all sizes, providing advice and counsel in all areas of labor and employment law.  Rob also represents employers in labor and employment litigation and ERISA (benefits) litigation.  Prior to joining Kohrman Jackson & Krantz in 2000, Rob was Assistant General Counsel – Employment and Human Resources for Verizon Communications, (previously GTE Corporation), a Fortune 50 Telecommunications Company.  In that role, Rob provided advice and counsel to the company’s various business units, and managed the company’s employment and ERISA litigation defense.  Rob’s in-house experience has made him believe in a proactive approach to labor and employment law.  Rob also represents executives in negotiation of employment agreements and severance/separation agreements. Rob has also focused upon the effect of new technology in the workplace, as a charter member of the American Bar Association’s Technology Committee.

 

Some of Rob’s recent experience includes:

  • Successfully defending our client sued for disability discrimination by a terminated employee
  • Successfully structuring a workforce reduction and negotiating severance arrangements with its employees
  • Negotiations resulting in severance agreements for various executives
  • Obtaining a favorable determination from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in response to a charge of sex discrimination filed against our client by one of its employees
  • Successfully defending our client against claims that it unlawfully hired an employee in violation of a non-compete agreement
  • In 2005, 2006 and 2008, Rob was named an Ohio Super Lawyer, a distinction bestowed on the top 5% of licensed attorneys in the state as determined by their peers.

Rob has been a frequent speaker on legal-related labor and employment issues, and has been asked to discuss labor and employment issues with various groups and media outlets, including Cleveland SHRM, Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE), Alexander Hamilton Institute, Western Reserve SHRM, American Society of Metals, American Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Society of Women Accountants, Crain's Cleveland Business and WCPN-FM among others.
